A man has been detained for spreading online comics on domestic and foreign websites that insult China, police in Liaoning province said Sunday.
The police in Dalian’s Shahekou district said in a Weibo post that they had criminally detained the 36-year-old suspect surnamed Lu when he returned to China.
Since January 2018, Lu produced a series of anti-China comics, together with Zhang, a 22-year-old female suspect who had been detained in May by local police in Anhui province, and published more than 140 posts.
Police said these posts spread messages of splitting the country and promoting nationalistic hatred which distorted history, insulted the Chinese nation and the entire Chinese people, incited antagonism and hurt the feelings of the Chinese people.
Lu an Zhang had been cooperating with similar groups at home and abroad to spread anti-China thoughts to young students in China. They also recruited young people to join them and set up illegal organizations via internet.
On the same day, police in Hubei, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces has also detained a number of suspects who spread messages online distorting history and insulting the Chinese people.
