Assault charge to be upgraded to manslaughter after alleged
beating victim dies 1

A man charged with aggravated assault in a beating investigation will soon be facing a manslaughter charge after his alleged victim died in hospital.

Paramedics were called to an establishment at Queen Street East and Sherbourne Street on Saturday, July 1, just after 10 p.m.

Upon arrival they found an unconscious man and he was taken to hospital with injuries that weren’t initially considered life-threatening.

Later that same day, police arrested Patrick Gayle, 46, of Toronto, and charged him with aggravated assault.

In hospital, the man’s condition worsened and he was placed on life support. He died on Tuesday, July 6.

The victim has since been identified as Dwain Frederick Adams, 61, of Toronto.

As a result of Adams’ death, police will be upgrading Gayle’s aggravated assault charge to manslaughter.

Adams is expected to appear in court on Monday, July 17, where his charge will be officially upgraded, police said in a release.
