A LAUNCH ceremony for a new book titled Legasi Payung Negara: Aspirasi, Cita-Cita dan Hasrat Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam was held yesterday at the Pehin Jawatan Dalam Hall of the Brunei History Centre in the capital.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin officiated the launch.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem Allah Peliharakan Sultan and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah prior to the launch by the minister.
The book was written by Principal of the Brunei History Centre Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Umar.
The book traces the 50-year reign of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as head of state guiding the nation towards progress in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035.
Acting Deputy Principal of the Brunei History Centre Hanafi bin Haji Salleh highlighted that the 778-page book was produced with young officers from the centre collaborating in the research and collection of resources and materials as well as writings and reviews.
He added that Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri also provided guidance and assistance for the young officers throughout the process until they have successfully completed the book.
Hanafi added that the publication of the book was a central effort to be added into the collection of reference material and historical reading on His Majesty apart, in addition to attracting the interest of young people to learn and acknowledge as well as commemorate His Majesty’s 50-year reign.
He said that the publication of the book is also meant as an addition into the Bruneiana collection and general section to be read by the public about the monarch and leader of Brunei Darussalam.
“With the publication of the book, it is hoped that every government, department and higher educational institution as well as primary and secondary schools and private schools will add the book into their library’s collection,” the deputy principal added. “I believe that the book will also be useful for the general public especially youth, as an inspiration towards the development of religion, race and nation and serve as a reference, guidance for teaching in the present and in the future.
The event also saw a brief review of the book by Ra’es of the Religious Teachers Universiti College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar.
It continued with the presentation of Ihsan books and ended with a Doa Selamat.
The guest of honour and other guests then toured the photograph exhibition showcasing His Majesty’s 50-year reign. The exhibition will run for three months from 8am to 4pm daily – including during Bandarku Ceria – except on Fridays and public holidays.
