— Vietnamese Deputy State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh on Monday hosted a reception for an Indian delegation led by Pallab Sengupta, Politburo member of the Communist Party of India and General Secretary of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization, who are in Vietnam to attend the 10th Vietnam-India People’s Friendship Festival. 


— Competent authorities in the south-central province of Binh Thuan confirmed on Monday evening they had found the bodies of two missing victims who were previously swept away by strong waves at a resort in La Gi Town on Saturday afternoon.

— The Ministry of Public Security has busted an online gambling ring worth more than VND1.6 billion (US$68,800) and arrested and initiated legal proceedings against six members of the racket.

— A fire broke out at a bioenergy company within the Phu Tai Industrial Park in the south-central province of Binh Dinh on Monday afternoon and burned down nearly 8,000 square meters of the firm’s workshops.

— Police in the northern province of Phu Tho have charged a 44-year-old man with murder for stabbing a traffic policeman’s back after being booked for his traffic violations on the evening of August 7.  The officer was seriously injured and has been treated at a major hospital in Hanoi.

— The customs department at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed on Monday they had recently caught a 39-year-old man from Senegal smuggling nearly 1.6 kilograms of cocaine in his stomach.

— Officers in Hanoi on Monday apprehended two men, aged 53 and 57, for having allegedly raped two teenage girls, who are sisters living in the same neighborhood, for multiple times since 2010. The family was only aware of the incident last week after finding out one of the victims has been five months pregnant.

— Doctors in the northern province of Quang Ninh were able to deliver a baby girl after her 33-year-old mother had already passed away before being admitted to the hospital on Monday morning.


— Two flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong operated by low-cost carrier Vietjet have recently been canceled after the Hong Kong Airport Authority announced it would close the airdrome until 7:00 am on Monday due to a large number of protesters at the facility.

— Authorities in the southern province of Dong Nai have confiscated over 40 metric tons of pork and chicken at a sausage production facility due to the lack of proper product origin.
