— Downpours that have been hitting in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak since Monday have inundated more than 30,000 houses in Ea Sup District, local authorities said Wednesday.

— A 46-year-old patient in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has recovered from hazards after midwives at the provincial General Hospital gave her the wrong blood type during a transfusion operation, according to the hospital’s deputy director Nguyen Tan Phuc.

— An international exhibition on food and beverage, VietFood & Beverage, and another on food processing and packaging technology and equipment, ProPack Vietnam, kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

— Gold traded at VND41.6 million (US$1,788.8) per tael in Vietnam on Wednesday, the highest level since 2013, as the precious metal jumped to a six-year high on global market.

— Vietnam was hit by 114 Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, or malicious attempts to disrupt normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic, in the second quarter of this year, according to the multinational cybersecurity provider Kaspersky.

— Lyricist, a dance crew from Vietnam, outperformed 14 other Southeast Asian representatives to win the eighth edition of the dance showcase competition Super 24 held in Singapore on Sunday.

— Tourism authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday presented a return air ticket to Oki Toshiyuki, a Japanese visitor,  as a token of apology after he was overcharged VND2.9 million ($124) by a local cyclo driver for a short ride in the downtown area.

— Vietnam on Wednesday beat defending champions Malaysia 1-0 in their first match of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U18 Championship taking place in Ho Chi Minh City.

— Thai Son Nam of Vietnam came back from a goal down to defeat Uzbekistan’s AGMK 4-1 in Group B of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Thailand 2019 on Wednesday.

— The Manulife Da Nang International Marathon 2019, which will take place at the Bien Dong Park in the namesake central city from August 9-11, is expected to attract more than 9,000 runners, including 2,404 foreigners from 67 countries and territories around the world, according to the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.
