The opening ceremony of Brunei Darussalam Youth Cultural Exchange and Conference 2019 (BDYCEC 2019) was held at the Kuala Belait Convention Hall yesterday.
The event encouraged cultural discussion by 144 youth from Brunei and West Sumatra, Indonesia.
Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was the guest of honour.
He was welcomed by President of Belait Youth Association (PEMBELA) and chairperson of the BDYCEC 2019 Atikah Rumaizah binti Dr Haji Awang Harun.
Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Labi I Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, Chairman of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board Ridzuan bin Haji Ahmad, Head of the Youth and Sports Department in the Belait District Gaung anak Jamit were also present.
President of PEMBELA and chairperson of the BDYCEC 2019 in her opening speech said the objective of the conference was to build cultural understanding among the youth worldwide.
The event proceeded with cultural performances by the Gendang Kebudayaan Group from the Village Consultative Council of Kampong Kiudang, Tutong; as well as a Tari Rantak cultural performance by the Indonesian delegates.
A series of plenary sessions on topics including the Discovering and Sustaining Culture As Heritage, and Enriching and Evolution of Culture and Arts by Acting Director of Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Haji Mohammad Abdoh bin Haji Awang Damit; and Cultural Art Talent as Job Opportunities and Tourism Products by Dr Haji Sastri Yunizarti Bakry, who is an expert on Building a Culture of Integrity, was also held.
The conference will conclude today.
