A SECURITY guard who pleaded guilty to stealing a game console from Jerudong International School (JIS) was given a nine-month jail sentence yesterday.
DPP Syazwani binti Jumat’s facts of the case revealed in court stated that Abdul Wafiy bin Yusof, 36, was posted to JIS while under employment of Daimun Security Services.
During his morning shift sometime in July 2019, while making rounds, he entered an office where he saw a game console inside a box on a table. He ignored it, but after several days, while escorting contractors he passed by the office and saw it at the same place.
He waited until the contractors were on their lunch break and then entered the office. He stole the console along with a controller, four cables, one memory card and three games which he hid and took home after his shift.
He sold the items to a colleague for BND140.
The defendant and his colleague agreed to a partial payment of BND70 and the remaining BND70 to be paid at the end of the month.
JIS management realising their property had gone missing sent a circular email to the school community.
The defendant delivered the game console to the buyer who was a colleague posted to the school.
The buyer grew suspicious as he remembered receiving information that the school had lost property resembling the game console.
He reported this to his Head of Security at the school who confronted the defendant and led to his confession.
The defendant was handed to the police, admitted during investigations that he committed the offence as he was desperate to pay off his debts to a colleague.
Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid presided over the case.
